Breaking Up Is Hard to Do; Here Are Five Ways to Make Things Easier

So, you’ve just broken up with your partner and now you’re feeling pretty low. It never seems to matter whether you did the dumping, had your heart broken or it came as a surprise, breakups are always hard to go through.

While there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to dealing with heartbreak, here are five ways to help ease the pain and make things a little easier…

  1. Get out and about with friends

Surrounding yourself with your closest mates who lift you up and make you feel great is step one in surviving a sad breakup. It gives you the chance to both chat about your feelings and get your ex off your mind altogether. Spending time with friends also eases you back into the social scene and prepares you for dating again.

  1. Take yourself out for your favourite meal

When you’ve drunk more cocktails and downed more beers with your mates than one person really should consume in a week, it’s time to make a reservation for one at your favourite restaurant. Not only does eating your favourite food make you feel infinitely better, it’s important to learn to be happy on your own again. There’s nothing better than realising how much you actually enjoy your own company!

  1. Put reminders of your relationship into storage

With heightened emotions after a recent break-up, you’d be crazy to wade through all the things you have that remind you of your ex. It’s all too easy to get caught up and throw out things you’re actually going to want when things calm down in a month or two. Instead, gather up reminders of your relationship and pop them into on-demand storage. That way, you’re only paying monthly and can easily get your items out later when you’re ready to make smarter decisions about what to keep and what to let go of (Pssst! SpacePAL can help with this!)

  1. Delete your ex from social media

What’s worse than a rough break up? Seeing reminders of the life you had with your ex, and the life they’re having now without you, splashed all over your social media. For your own sanity and emotional stability, it’s best to remove all traces of your ex from your social channels, at least until you’re better equipped to seeing them move on.

  1. Update your look

A new wardrobe can go a long way to give you a fresh start and making you feel great about yourself. When you’re feeling your most confident, you’ll be able to better appreciate the great things about your relationship, let go of the bad and start moving on. It doesn’t have to be as drastic as emptying your bank account on a shopping spree either. You can simply pick up a few new things and rotate out some older pieces you’ve over-worn.
